MICRO-NEEDLING
Micro-needling is a skin-rejuvenating procedure in which tiny needles create punctures in the top layer of skin with the goal of improving overall texture and appearance. Once consider an old-school beauty treatment dating back to 1995, it’s made a comeback in recent years. A numbing cream is applied topically prior to treatment. After the face is cleansed, a “glide” is applied (usually a hyaluronic acid serum) and a motorized, hand- held device is used to perform the virtually painless 15-30 minute treatment. The skin will be pink with pinpoint bleeding and may feel tight. These mild side effects resolve in 24 hours. Nothing should be used on the skin post-procedure except as directed by your skin care professional. The “micro” injuries stimulate collagen. The results are smoother, firmer, more even-looking skin. Micro-needling may help reverse signs of aging even out skin tone, minimize pores and leave the skin looking refreshed. Micro-needling has proven to be effective in the treatment of acne scarring but will require multiple treatments. Regenerative Medicine “boosters” containing growth factors, cytokines and mesenchymal stem cells can be added to your treatment and unlike PRP can be done without drawing a patient’s blood.
